Residential Electrical Services

Acterra Electrical provides quality electrical solutions for homeowners from the smallest problem to the largest home building project.  Our custom residential department is one of the most creative in our entire suite of services. The technicians are trained to treat your home, as well as you, with the highest level of respect and courtesy. They will review exactly what they plan to do prior to commencing with the project. To protect your home, all areas will be covered using drop cloths. Our goal is to leave your home in the condition it was in prior to our arriving. Except, of course, for the new electrical installation we will professionally leave behind. Our staff takes pride in snaking electrical wiring in the most difficult of areas with as little sheet rock damage as possible. If we do have to make a small sheet rock opening, we will repair the opening in a professional, high quality manner.

Energy Efficiency

Lighting represents as much as 25 percent of electrical use, so it is a significant part of your monthly utility bill.  Lighting affects the way you feel, work, and interact with others. It helps you accomplish everyday tasks.  Most of us still use the incandescent bulb, which is basically the same technology invented by Thomas Edison over 100 years ago.  Since lighting represents as much as 25 percent of electrical use, increasing your lighting efficiency is one of the easiest and fastest ways to lower your energy bills.  One easy way to reduce your electric bill without sacrificing the quality of your lighting is to replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights.  Compact fluorescents come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and wattages to fit most lamps and light fixtures. The light they provide is a soft, warm color, similar to incandescents, but they use up to 75% less energy, and should last approximately 10,000 hours. Solar Energy Photovoltaics

Acterra Electrical provides commercial, industrial, and residential users solar technology. Increasing power costs have given new rise to photovoltaics, PV for short. Unlike solar panels of yesteryear, PV technology generates energy enough to supply the structure it’s built into as well as supplying the electrical grid serving the neighborhood. Acterra Electrical installs PV systems in residences and commercial buildings.  The Energy Policy Act of 2008 provided a 30% Federal Tax Credit – a full credit, not just a deduction – for qualifying solar photovoltaic systems expiring on December 31, 2016. 

PV systems contain crystalline cells that convert the light of the sun directly into energy. These roofing panels can be installed over any conventional roofing material, for example over roofing tile. The systems can also be installed on the “eyebrows” over windows, in glass-on-glass skylights and in panoramic view walls. The power output from these durable panels is guaranteed for 20 years. PV is used worldwide from niche markets in developed countries to rural villages in underdeveloped nations. In Scandinavia, tens of thousands of vacation homes are lit by photovoltaics. Globally, there are well over 100,000 off-grid residential PV systems sometimes serving as a sole energy source. Increasingly, it’s being used to replace diesel generators, as diesel is expensive to fuel, difficult to maintain and environmentally harmful. Utilities use PV to produce power for the grid, particularly at peak demand times when power is the most expensive.
