{"id":1395,"date":"2017-06-21T02:45:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-21T07:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acterragroup.com\/?p=1395"},"modified":"2018-08-09T10:45:39","modified_gmt":"2018-08-09T15:45:39","slug":"underground-storage-tank-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.acterragroup.com\/dev1\/2017\/06\/21\/underground-storage-tank-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Underground Storage Tank Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently revised their rules and regulations\u00a0regarding the instillation, operation and maintence of Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2015-07-15\/pdf\/2015-15914.pdf\" target=\"\">EPA Federal Register<\/a>. The EPA implemented these revisions in hopes of better preventing and detecting groundwater contaimination.<\/p>\n<p>The EPA altered the original 1988 UST Regulations and presented the following changes in July of 2015:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Additional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/secondary-containment-and-under-dispenser-containment-2015-requirements\" target=\"\">Secondary Containment<\/a>\u00a0Required for Tanks and Piping<\/li>\n<li>Additional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/operator-training-minimum-training-requirements-and-training-options\" target=\"\">Operator Training<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum training requirements for Class A, B &amp; C<\/li>\n<li>Retraining<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Additional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/operating-and-maintaining-ust-systems-2015-requirements\">Inspections &amp; Testing<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Walkthrough inspections every 30 days<\/li>\n<li>Sump Testing<\/li>\n<li>Release Detection Equiptment Testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Additional\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/alternative-fuels-and-underground-storage-tanks-usts\" target=\"\">Alternative Fuel<\/a>\u00a0Compatability Requirements<\/li>\n<li>Updated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/underground-storage-tanks-usts-laws-and-regulations#code\" target=\"\">Industry Codes<\/a><\/li>\n<li>UST Instilation for emergency generator tanks, field constructed tanks and airport hydrant systems installed prior to October 13th 2015, must meet the requirements for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/release-detection-underground-storage-tanks-usts\" target=\"\">release detection<\/a>\u00a0no later than October 13th 2018. Those installed after October 13th 2015 must meet those requirments when installed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The EPA also revised the State Program Approval Regulations\u00a0which directly coinsides with the\u00a0UST regulations. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/state-underground-storage-tank-ust-programs#role\" target=\"\">SPA<\/a>\u00a0gives approval to the local state governemnt to oversee the instilation and maintence of USTs. SPA Approved states have the lead role over the Federal Government and EPA in UST program enforcement.
